A refreshing day out to Pandav Kada waterfalls, Khargar

A refreshing day out to Pandav Kada waterfalls, Khargar
(19/07/2014)

Mumbai in Monsoon, just rocks; the high intriguing tides in Arabian sea, the madness around train stations, the clashes of colorful umbrellas of different sizes underneath which lies frowning faces, increasing prices of food items, craving for hot ginger tea with hot pakoras and samosas, the lush green gardens and the surrounding hills full of greenery and beautiful waterfalls. And of all , the best thing to do in a rainy season here, is to get out of your comfort zone and go around romancing with rain and admire the beauty that it has spread all around.
So, this weekend I went to Pandav Kada waterfalls in Khargar, Navi Mumbai with Deepali, though earlier plan included Lovely and Rishika, who came up with their last moment 'No' as they were not feeling quite well for an outing.
We left early at around 7:30 am, carrying 8 slices of bread-butter, one packet bhakhar wadi and biscuits, and reached Khargar at 10:30 am after changing train at Andheri for harbor line. One thing which makes me and Deepali good travel partners, is that we both are less talkative, and most of the times we are lost in our respective thoughts which both of us cherish peacefully, and give each other space enough to soak up the soul-touching beauty of nature, and once the time for masti/fun comes, we both jump in with full excitement, which makes the travel more interesting and mood-swing free. J

'Go green'
So, there we reached at the lush green, eye catching and soul soothing waterfall, which looked beautiful, and our eyes were set on it from the very beginning point of the road where our auto dropped us. The fall was another 30 minutes walk away from the road through muddy, slushy rain fed track. In between we had to cross a nullah with thigh deep water.

<3 <3 <3
And to add to our excitement the Rain God's playfulness made us giggle our stomach out; for in a moment it started raining, making us take our umbrellas out, and the next moment it stopped and the very next moment the sun shone above us peeping through the clouds, and when we kept our umbrellas in our bag, it again started raining. We just wondered and laughed, and later as usual I bored Deepali with my silly logic,” The weather is such, because some people are praying that it doesn't rain while others are praying for it to rain, that's why the Rain God is quite confused as what to do and out of confusion He is playing 'Rain-No Rain’ at the same time. After all Inder Devta also has to answer to every bhakt's prayer.” Lol

'The beauty'
History has it that the Pandavas, from the epic Mahabharata came to this fall through a tunnel and took bath in it, so the name Pandav Kada.

'Treat to our soul'
We kept walking till we reached the base of the fall, which was already overcrowded. Though the fall is lesser known to the people of Mumbai, but for the people around Navi Mumbai, the waterfall seemed to be the nearest refreshing point, especially to the bunch of College goers. From a flat rocky hilltop flowed the water down in two layers, one of which just passes from the side through bushes to form a beautiful view, meandering enchantingly through the green patches, while the other falls down vertically and forcefully to make an adrenaline rush through everyone’s spirit and tempting everybody towards it, to get into the pool under the fall and have as much fun as one can have to his or her capacity.

:-)
Coming to us, we both wanted to go into the water badly, but the problem was that there was no one to look after our stuffs if we got into it, especially when the crowd seemed quite huge and doubtful to trust. But still we wanted to go and were figuring out for ways to do so. Protecting our bags from the forceful splashes of water, we crossed through the rocks around the pool and went to the other side to find a safe place to keep our stuffs safe. But water was everywhere splashing quite far away. So seeing a bunch of girls at a rocky corner, we found some space under two enjoined rocks, kept our bags under and put our umbrella on it, and went into the water. We were there having fun for I guess 5 minutes, when I turned back and saw that my umbrella had fallen down. I got out of the water quickly to get our stuffs safe. Meanwhile Deepali also came out, and we gradually started walking back after a while.

'The fun'
It was again nice to see people around in their happy and joyful mood. Deepali got attracted towards a father-son duo; a man of around 38-40 yrs of age, walking all the way holding his 3-4 yrs old son and stopping at every beautiful point to click the picture of the kid, asking him to pose this and that way. It was so touching, and Deepali wished deeply that her husband be so. ;-) (Oh! It shouldn't be public, she'll kill me...shhh. :P)
'The happy lady and the father-son duo (her crush :P)'
OK, then we took our return walk, taking a different route and clicking pictures of whatever attracted our senses. By then we were feeling quite cold and hungry, so we found a safe dry place, ordered tea from a nearby stall, took out the eatables we got along and relished every bit of it till our stomach said,”Yeah, I am full now!” At the exit point, we found tempting roasted corns (Bhutta) stalls and couldn’t resist having it. So, we bought two bhuttas and took the Cab (yes, there is provision of shared Cab to station which charges Rs. 13/- per person). We enjoyed bhutta in the cab itself. While in the cab, we again looked back at the passing beauty of green patches, hills and falls, whispering Goodbye to them and thanking for giving us wonderful moments out there.

'Simple but delicious'
'Aa ab laut chalein.. :-)'
(As always this instant outing was A-Awesome! Keep smiling :-) :-) :-): Nawi)

  1. Being a famous picnic spot in Navi Mumbai area, it is recommended not to swim in the waterfall as it is not safe. Thanks for sharing all this related information. Here are a few more places to visit in Navi Mumbai.
